CHISVA Service

What is a CHISVA?

A CHISVA is a Children and Young People’s Independent Sexual Violence Adviser. The service went live on the 1st July 2018 and is funded by the Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner.

CHISVA’s provide independent and accurate information, practical and emotional support, as well as support through a police investigation and any court processes. All CHISVA’s are fully trained by Lime Culture, and our service is accredited as meeting the quality standards for an ISVA service.

WHO CAN ACCESS THE SERVICE

Any child aged 0 – 18 in the Nottingham City or Nottinghamshire County area following a disclosure or discovery of sexual abuse. Family members of the victims can also be supported.

HOW TO ACCESS ThE SERVICE

Referrals are received directly from the East Midlands Children and Young People’s Sexual Assault Service 0800 183 0023.

The role of a CHISVA

– Carry out a safety and support assessment covering many areas including the criminal justice process, health, mental health and housing.

– Provide practical and emotional support and advocacy.

– Provide impartial and accurate information to help clients make their own informed decision.

– Signpost to relevant services and sources of support.

FUNDED BY THE POLICE AND CRIME COMMISSIONER

The CHISVA service went live on the 1st July 2018.

The service is intended to improve and standardise the care provided to children and young people in Nottinghamshire who have experienced sexual abuse.

MORE ABOUT IMARA

IMARA has been providing independent early-intervention therapy, legal support and advocacy to children, young people and their families following the disclosure or discovery of child sexual abuse in Nottingham City since 2011.

Founded as a community interest company (CIC), IMARA transitioned to a registered charity (CIO) in November 2016 (1170 331).

IMARA is also the chosen provider of therapy for all 0-12 year olds and some 13-18 year olds in Nottingham City, and 0-18 year olds in Nottinghamshire County who disclose sexual abuse.

There is currently no waiting list for the Nottinghamshire CHISVA Service.

We will get in touch within 1 working day of receiving a referral.

A CHISVA is allocated within 1 week, and will reach out to organise the first meeting to begin delivering the service.
